Selecting the appropriate Coilcraft Model

Which Model Should I use?

Our lumped element SPICE models include large signal / high current and small signal / low current versions.
Our S-parameters are small signal / low current models.
  • Do not use SPICE models or S-parameters for inductor core loss estimates.

  • MagPro DC-DC Optimizer and Power Inductor Finder and Analyzer tools are best for core and winding loss  

Coilcraft Large signal / high current time domain models  - capture saturation effects

  • Use these models to capture inductance vs current effects in time-domain simulations

  • Only for soft-saturating Coilcraft power inductors

  • Included in the Coilcraft LTspice and Pspice libraries 

Coilcraft Small signal / low current time domain SPICE models include:

 LTspice basic (RLC) small signal Models included in the LTspice standard inductor library (ind.lib)

  • Use these models for low current time domain or frequency domain simulations

  • These do not capture frequency-dependent inductance or resistance 

  • Use well below the SRF in the frequency domain or equivalent SRF in time domain 

Coilcraft Impedance (RLC) small signal SPICE Models

  • Use these models for time domain / transient simulations details

  • A step above the LTspice basic models for better accuracy

  • Use up to or slightly above the SRF  

  •  Included in the Coilcraft LTspice and Pspice libraries

Coilcraft Advanced (Laplace) small signal SPICE Models

  • Use these models for low current frequency domain simulations

  • These capture frequency-dependent inductance and resistance

  • Highest accuracy for small signal frequency domain simulations

  • Results match those of Coilcraft’s advanced (Laplace) models

  • Use up to or slightly above the SRF

  • Download on product web page (resources) or here (Select a Part Model)
