Lead free/RoHS solutions
Coilcraft is making every effort to control
the environmental impact of our products. And we support the efforts of our
customers and suppliers to do the same.
Following is a summary of Coilcraft policy
and current practice regarding the reduction of hazardous materials.
Definition of “lead free”
Coilcraft has adopted as its standard the Restriction of
Hazardous Substances directive commonly known as RoHS*.
Status of our product families
None of our components contain any of the
following materials and it is our policy to prohibit intentional introduction
into future designs:
Any lead present in our ceramic body parts,
such as chip inductors, is contained in the ceramic itself.
The RoHS directive
explicitly exempts "lead in electronic
ceramic parts."
Trace amounts of cadmium do exist in the
metalization of certain parts. We can provide specific information on ppm levels
upon request.
Lead free products
Many Coilcraft products
have always met RoHS standards for lead and cadmium content and are suitable
for 260° soldering. You can continue to order these product families under their
existing part numbers. They are identified on our web site and in our catalog by
the "RoHS Compliant" symbol.
Other product families do contain trace
amounts of lead and/or cadmium that exceed RoHS limits (contact us at
matdec@coilcraft.com for details
on exact ppm levels). In most cases, we offer RoHS-compliant
alternatives for these products, distinguished by the presence of the letter L
in the part number. Our web site and catalog indicate the lead free alternatives
and give ordering instructions.
Questions regarding lead times for samples and
production quantities should be addressed to
matdec@coilcraft.com.
Conclusion
Coilcraft is very proud of our environmental
record. It is our intent to continue to conduct all our business in the most
environmentally friendly manner possible.
*It is
Coilcraft’s understanding that parts are RoHS compliant as long as no homogeneous material used in the part
contains more than 1000 ppm lead (0.1%) and 100 ppm cadmium (0.01%).
